Approach to Education

Mashal has a holistic approach to education and believes that providing education is primarily about enhancing the overall wellbeing of an individual and enabling them to realize their full potential.

Going beyond mere utilization of curriculum, the school seeks to provide quality education to children that focuses on personal growth, knowledge acquisition, skills development and inculcation of values like democratic spirit, tolerance, equality of citizenship and empathy.

Mashal has a community-based approach that aims at enhancing the overall wellbeing of the community through education, social mobilization, creation of job opportunities, skills enhancement and protecting and promoting the dignity of the individuals.

The curriculum recognizes, value and encourages the development of attitude and characteristics that will be needed in rapidly changing times, namely;

  • Be concerned with community, country and environment

The curriculum integrates parties of ECE with a firm commitment to work with families and communities to individualize experience of each child. It is designed to meet child specific needs, respect a variety of culture traditions and emphasizes family participation.

Health & Hygiene

Promotion of public health & hygiene

Health and hygiene sessions were run with the children and their parents significantly contributed towards protecting the children against various possible epidemics and infections, especially water borne diseases, normally rampant in low income neighborhoods across the country.

COVID has been a great challenge for the last 2 year years now.

We have a mobile unit visiting our school every month to dispense free medicines and help families and their communities.

Health & Physical Education

Mashal believes that physical health and education are crucial to ensuring quality of life as well as consolidating learning outcomes.

The school provides competitive sporting opportunities to its students. Raging from Cricket, Football, Basketball, and organized games.

The students at school, as a result, have excelled in different sports at various levels, including the national level. We participate equally with private school in sports.

The school has been working with Right to Play since 2010 and has adopted their teaching methodology that undertakes to achieve learning outcomes through sports and other physical activities. This approach allows the students to relate knowledge to real life situations through reflection and problem-solving.

Child Protection

Protection Issuance of Identification documents

Mashal has its own child protection policy.

We are working with the National Child Protection Bureau and Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.

At present, the children, especially from IDP families with our assistance have complete documentation from NADRA authorities which were previously only 45%.

Community Mobilization

Enhanced police-community linkages through community policing

Protection of children against a range of risks was also ensured by enhancing contact with local police.

Emergency preparedness

An MOU was signed with the Pakistan Red Crescent Society and the Girls Guide Society to help the children and the school staff to become aware of first aid procedures in case of emergency, injury or natural disaster. First aid and disaster management workshops were held these groups.

Serena Hotel management trained our teachers in emergency evacuation strategies.

Vocational Training And Entrepreneurship

Skill Development

The skills development center imparts skills and vocational education in the areas of carpentry, sewing, embroidery, basic and advanced computer learning, and spoken English.

The center runs evening classes for the students and community members.

Worked with Faiz ul Islam Vocational center to train 40 students after metric to develop skills in Electrician work, Mobile Repairing, Welding, Plumbing and Advance Computer literacy classes.

Arts and Dramatic Plays

Arts & Crafts

Mashal has a vibrant culture of arts and crafts that engages our students and gives them an environment where they can be imaginative and creative. Students enjoy classes and workshops in Arts.

Arts and crafts are an important focus of curricular objectives at Mashal. It nurtures our children to become motivated participants and appreciative audience of Arts.

Women Empowerment

Capacity Building program – This short program aims to help women / mothers build their capacity in Urdu, English, Science and Math in 3 to 6 months, for help their children in their studies.

A unique solution for literacy in Pakistan: Speed Literacy Program

Speediest method to educate illiterate and near illiterate children and adults to spread education in Pakistan. A uniquely designed program by Vision21.

Speed Literacy Program [SLP]

Speed Literacy Program [SLP] is a unique program designed by Vision21 Foundation that aims to teach the non-illiterate children. The students achieve literacy levels of Primary grade within a period of one year and Matric grade level in a period of 3-4 years. Our Free-for-Children program is aimed at developing Pakistan’s human capital, and taking children back to school, using a cost effective system that is easy, fun to learn, and delivers results.

Through its different models developed to cater to the needs of the out-of-school-children and the students at risk, Speed Education aims to help the students it the fastest possible way.

Speed Matric Program – Speed Matric Program is the latest development of SLP where students can pass matric in a period of 4 to 5 years.

At present Mashal has been working with this program since 2012 and has successfully coached 380 children through matric.
